It was a great first day for 46 second graders! We can't wait for tomorrow. Ask your child about their favorite part of the day
Second graders went to Stockbridge Central school today to attend their FFA Farm Days. We had a blast. It might have been a little cold and wet but that didn't seem to matter one bit. There were so many fun activities and we were busy all morning. Thank you Stockbridge for inviting us. Look at "See Us In Action" for more photos.
Fifth grade students came to second grade today to share their Civil Rights projects. First, we watched the movie they made. Next, we got into small groups and listened the research reports the written by the fifth graders. We always enjoy when we get to work with friends in another grade. Ms. Frizzle stopped by HCS during the P.A.R.P. kick off assembly. Second graders are excited to keep track of their minutes reading at home to meet the principal challenge. Mom & Dad- Help us remember turn to in our recording slips on Monday.
In January, second graders enjoyed listening to their teachers read aloud "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown. Then each student designed their own Flat Stanleys and sent them out into the world to learn and explore new places. Throughout January, February, and March, second graders received their Flat Stanleys back from all over the United States and even other countries! So much new information to learn and share! Next, second graders made a poster to showcase their new learning and share it with parents and other students. All posters were displayed in the Terrace level hallway and visitors were welcomed. What a great turnout! Parents, grandparents, siblings, and fellow learners enjoyed viewing and complimenting the students on their projects. Second graders especially enjoyed receiving sticky notes with compliments on them from other students. Thanks to everyone who took the time to celebrate and share with us! Read Across America was celebrated this year on Monday, March 3,2014. It is a day to recognize the importance of reading and to celebrate the joy of reading. Second graders came to school ready to read, read, read! They wore pajamas and brought pillows, blankets, flashlights and stuffed friends to make the reading fun even more special. Flat Stanley (visiting from Italy) had fun reading too! A great time was had by everyone. Second graders are sending letters, a questionnaire and their own Flat Stanley to family and friends. They look forward to getting mail back from places around the United States and the world.
Friday mornings second graders borrow ipads from the Think Tank. There are enough ipads for students to work with a partner. This month they are working on math apps to practice telling time. Check out "See Us in Action" for more photos.
